With week four of the college football season, we welcome Penn and Princeton as the Ivy League teams kick off their season.
A pair of 2-0 teams will face each other on Saturday night when Rowan visits Collegeville to take on Ursinus. Rowan features the Football Stories Offensive Player of the Week – Nunes Bukula IV – the running back had 162 yards and two scores in the Profs 30-20 win over
McDaniel.
The Football Stories Defensive Player of the Week is the Bears defensive lineman Aaron Rios, who had 10 tackles with seven for a loss including five sacks as Ursinus topped Kean 31-17.
No. 5 Villanova escaped with a 14-13 win over Towson in their CAA opener. This week, the Wildcats (3-0, 1-0 CAA) step up to take on Maryland (2-1, 0-1 Big Ten).
“Our guys are excited about it,” said Villanova head coach Mark Ferrante. “It’s a bigger stage and a lot of guys within our program think they can play on that bigger stage. Now, they’re going to have the opportunity to show people, if they belong.”
Penn will open at Delaware (2-0), the Blue Hens won at North Carolina A&T, 42-13. Penn’s Ivy rival, Princeton is at Lehigh (2-1). Delaware State (1-2) looks to bounce back from a 30-7 loss to Wagner when Richmond comes to Dover.
Temple (0-3) entertains Utah State (1-2) on Saturday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field. The Owls fell short in a comeback against Coastal Carolina and lost 28-20. Quarterback Evan Simon, a transfer from Rutgers, got his first start as an Owl.
“He’s been there before,” said head coach Stan Drayton, “there isn’t a whole lot he hasn’t seen. He’s that calming force for the offense when things might be going sideways.”
With a pair of tough home losses including last week’s 38-28 defeat at the hands of California (PA), West Chester will take to the road to face Seton Hill (1-2).
Off a 27-13 win at Eastern, Widener (1-1, 1-0 MAC) plays their home opener against Albright (1-1, 0-1 MAC). Eastern (0-2, 0-1 MAC) plays the third straight game at their newly renovated stadium on the campus of the Valley Forge Military Academy when Lebanon Valley College (1-1, 1-0 MAC) comes to Radnor.
Last week, Delaware Valley (2-0, 1-0 MAC) blasted Alvernia, 42-7. This week, the Aggies are at Stevenson (0-2, 0-0 MAC). Last Saturday, TCNJ (2-0) beat Franklin and Marshall, 17-13, they’ll try to improve to 3-0 when they travel to Muhlenberg (1-1).
Lincoln (0-2, 0-1 CIAA) was routed by Johnson C. Smith, 52-6, and is on the road for the third consecutive week when they play at Shaw University (2-1, 0-0 CIAA).
