Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce and cornerback Darius Slay were named to the 2022 NFL Pro Bowl. Also, quarterback Jalen confirmed he is a Pro Bowl alternate.
Hurts on being named an alternate:
“I think, the Pro Bowl is obviously the goal for a lot of players,” Hurts said Thursday during his video press conference. “It's the dream. It's a dream for many to be considered to be voted upon my peers. I guess starting out this way ain’t too bad. But it's a blessing, and it’s cool.”
For Kelce it’s his fifth Pro Bowl nod. The Birds have been playing well and lead the league in rushing.
Since Week 8, the Eagles are 5-2 and rank first in rushing yards per game (214.4), third-down efficiency (51.6 percent), scoring efficiency (drives that result in points, 52.9 percent), and explosive plays (80). The Eagles are also second in points per game (29.3) over that span.
In his second season with the team, Slay, who calls himself “Big Play Slay,” has lived up to the nickname, becoming the first Eagles cornerback to earn Pro Bowl honors since Asante Samuel following the 2010 season.
The team's nominee for the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, Slay is Pro Bowl-bound for the fourth time in his career.
Slay leads all NFL players with three defensive touchdowns, becoming just the second Eagle to accomplish the feat (Eagles Hall of Famer and Pro Football Hall of Fame semifinalist Eric Allen). He is the first Eagle, however, to score three times defensively in a four-game span. The Eagles won all three of those contests to help spark the team's turnaround in the second half of the season.
The NFL's leader in pass deflections since entering the league in 2013, Slay has 47 tackles, three interceptions, three touchdowns, and five total takeaways this year.
Slay is Pro Football Focus' No. 3-ranked cornerback in coverage this season, doing so while responsible for the opposing team's best pass catches on a week in, week out basis.
Although no confirmed as of this posting, Hurts is likely the second alternate behind Los Angeles Rams signal caller Matthew Stafford, who many thought should have made the Pro Bowl cut.
